USA Made Products and The Murph Challenge


Happy Memorial Day everyone! How blessed are we to have the amazing men and women protecting our freedom??!! Chelsea and I celebrate and appreciate our servicemen every day, but we love the American holidays that bring the country together and give us the opportunity to share our love and support. In fact, as I’m writing this, I am listening to my American AF playlist I made for the 4th of July on Spotify. I’ve made it public for today so please enjoy with us!

In honor of this American holiday, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite Made in USA products:

Acure Organics is all natural and uses only organic, natural fair trade products. I love how they don’t just focus on the outermost surface of the skin, but works to protect your immune system by protecting our skin against environmental stresses. I am totally hooked on their ultra-hydrating body lotion. I like how it’s unscented and they use cocoa butter and CoQ10 and tons of beneficial, natural ingredients. I also love their ultra-hydrating body wash and argan stem cell + chlorella growth factor brightening facial scrub (that’s a mouthful, huh?…that’s when you know it’s good!).

R+Co is a really fun and fab line I use for my boring, drab hair. All of their products are formulated without parabens, sulfates (SLS or SLES), mineral oil or petrolatum. They are all vegetarian, cruelty-free, gluten-free and color-safe (another it’s GOOD!). Their Death Valley Dry Shampoo is great for dealing with that second day, oily bed head as well as styling fresh hair so it’s not too poofy and obnoxiously bland. If you’re looking to blow dry some body your hair into Dallas Thickening Spray is the best!! The names of the products and their super fun packaging makes getting ready that much more exciting…oh…and they have a nice, non-offensive scent that doesn’t burn my nose hairs.

Lastly…I cannot live without my Peanut Butter Perfect Bar (they have a number of other flavors for those of you who don’t like or are allergic to peanut butter). I seriously look forward to waking up just so I can sip my black coffee and enjoy my delicious breakfast bar. Memorial Day Weekend

Paleo Pals are bringing you some delicious Memorial Day Weekend treats for you. What are some of your plans? I will be picking up my new puppy, Rocky from the breeder tomorrow. I can’t wait. It’s all I have been thinking about today. For the rest of the weekend I plan on getting in some good workouts in the sun and also a lot of rest….but now that I think about it that probably won’t happen with a fur baby around…..eek. The more practice I get at this photo taking thing, the more I like it and get ideas for better shots. I am so happy with how the pictures below turned out. I am bringing you four recipes, three of which incorporate berries and coconut. The last is RIBS!!! I don’t have a paleo sauce for you from my own noggin but I have included one you can try. When it comes to sauce….I usually don’t give a hoot on whether or not it’s paleo. I am a sauce boss. I have an Alabama caveman who swears by Dreamland’s sauce which is definitely amazing. In the picture, we tried dry, wet and sort of a mixture. Ribs three ways….cant complain. YUM pair with a simple salad and apple cider vinegarette and you’re good to go. I am a simple cook so the less steps the better. We just grilled the ribs and went to town. They were awesome….Wow I just realized how much of a tangent I just went on about ribs… See the super simple berry recipes below and ENJOY!!!! Shoutout to all the military folk out there. Berries and Coconut Cream

Berries and Coconut Cream:
  • Can of coconut cream from trader joes
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1 cup of strawberries.
Chop berries
layer…..need I say more?
 Patriotic Paleo Popsicle!! MYSTERY ITEM~~
This was the dessert we didn’t show on ig….enjoy
Patriotic Paleo Popsicles
  • 2 c strawberries
  • 1.5 c blueberries
  • 1 c coconut milk
  • 1/4 tsp honey (optional)
  • 1 c water
  1. blend strawberries, 1/2 c water in vitamix
  2. pour mixture in each popsicle mold about 1/3 of the way
  3. let freeze for 30 minutes
  4. Pour coconut milk *option to add honey into the popsicle mold
  5. let freeze for 30 minutes
  6. blend blueberries, 1/2 c water in vitamix
  7. pour mixture on top of coconut milk
  8. stick popsicle sticks/lids into molds and freeze for a few hours
  9. serve and enjoy!

  • 1 banana
  • 3-4 strawberries
  • about 10 blueberries
  • 1 tbs unsweetened shredded coconut.
2 skewers~~
  1. Assemble in red, white and blue pattern. ENJOY
 Ribs Three Ways
I should have my caveman do a guest post because he deserves all the credit for this meat. He’s the true grill master. I just make the salad. I chopped romaine lettuce, purple cabbage, and some avocado. Mixed up some apple cider vinegar, a tad of olive oil and lemon juice and added it to the salad.
We get our ribs at Costco….always. Slather them up with your favorite sauce and grill away until they reach at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Throwback Thursday: Loaded Baked Potato

So remember as a kid loving baked potatoes? I sure do. The sour cream, chives and butter….omg I am drooling just thinking about it. Today I am sharing a recipe I found from the Cookery App created by Against All Grain’s, Danielle Walker. This recipe reminds me of those loaded baked potatoes with a Mexican twist. There is cheese on top, making this dish more primal than paleo but guess what! You can just forget the cheese if you want it to be paleo. Easy peasy lemon squeezey.




Enchilada Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

AUTHOR: Danielle Walker –




  1. Preheat oven to 400° F. Rub the skins of the potatoes all over with 1 tablespoon of ghee and pat them with the 1 teaspoon coarse salt. Prick them with a fork a few times and place on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil. Bake until tender, about 40 minutes.
  2. Make the filling: Heat the remaining ghee in a large skillet set over medium-high heat. Saute the onion, peppers, garlic, and sea salt for 5 minutes. Add the beef and continue cooking until the beef is cooked through and the vegetables are softened, about 10 minutes.
  3. Cut slits in the tops of the cooked sweet potatoes and open them up a bit with a fork.
  4. Spoon the filling with a slotted spoon into the sweet potatoes, top with warm enchilada sauce and serve.
Tidbits: The sauce can be made up to 1 week in advance and rewarmed before serving.

Collagen…Nature’s botox. Say, what?!


Ah collagen. Nature’s botox. Ever since I discovered the importance of it, I’ve been hooked and cant get enough. Gelatin is a natural source of collagen, which is not only great for making us look ageless, it is also great for the gut, muscle recovery, sleep and stress reduction and source of quickly absorbed protein. Chris Kresser has a great article on the benefits of gelatin; he’s my go to Paleo Doctor!

Although gelatin may be difficult to fit into your diet on a regular basis, Great Lakes Unflavored Beef Gelatin, makes it easy and fun! Did you know you can use it to make gummies and Jello-O? And as a former sugar, gummy, sweet treats addict, this really hit the spot! I made these Gut Healing Gummies but used strawberries. Feel free to get creative!

Bone broth is also quite the phenomenon right now, being called “liquid gold,” and it surely packs a punch full of collagen. I love using it to make soup during the colder months. I will buy an organic, free range rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods and then use the bones to make broth in my crockpot. Or if I’m feeling lazy, I will pick up some locally made broth at the farmer’s market or order on ThriveMarket. However, during the warmer months, bone broth and soup are just not going to happen, you know what I’m sayin??

So, I have a morning cocktail that consists of 8oz of water, a splash of Whole Foods’ 365 Organic 100% Lemon Juice and a tablespoon of Great Lakes Unflavored Beef Gelatin that I immediately whisk up quickly with a fork to prevent the gelatin from turning…well…gelatinous. I then take my Fermented Cod LIver Oil and chase it with my gelatin cocktail. My stomach truly thanks me for starting my day with this concoction as opposed to something harsh like coffee…don’t worry, coffee comes shortly after. The gelatin actually also fills me up with some good quality protein, too so I am not ravenous in the morning. It prevents me from eating two Perfect Bars in less than a minute as opposed to one.

Lastly, if you want an even faster fix of collagen, check out Primal Kitchen’s Dark Chocolate Almond Bar. They’re also a great source of protein, fat and fiber…oh and don’t forget they’re chocolate…and only 3 grams of sugar.

Taco Tuesday: Paleo Hawaiian Pork Tenderloin Tacos

OK so this was a make it up as I go recipe, which turned out pretty good! I tried making coconut flour tortillas without the eggs, and yeah that was a bad idea BUT what was cool is that the coconut flour mixture ended up super crumbly when I cooked it in the pan and it looked and almost tasted like cheese. I sprinkled it on top of my shell-less taco and it was good!

Today was definitely a rest day. I am so tired from the Murph Challenge and also taking care of this 7 week old pup.


Hawaiian Pork Tenderloin Tacos


  • 1 lb pork tenderloin
  • 1 cup of pineapple
  • 1/2 sliced onion
  • 1 sliced green onion
  • 1 avocado sliced
  • 1 chopped jalepeno
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • dash of chipotle powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • lime to taste
  1. Grill pork tenderloin separate from other ingredients.
  2. In a pan, add pineapple, onion, jalepeno and spices and cook until tender.
  3. Add pork to pan
  4. pour sauce over the mixture
  5. garnish with avocado, lime wedge, green onion and additional jalepeno
  • 1 tbs bitchin sauce cilantro
  • 1 tbs coconut milk
  • 1 tsp chipotle tabasco

Hair Growth Serum! 

Hey all! I have been hooked on natural oils and have been experimenting with them for over three years now. If you haven’t read Liz Wolfe’s Skintervention, you totes should. Liz is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to natural beauty care. Her book Eat The Yolks is also a must read.

Anyway, back to my magic serum! The boring, scientific definition of castor oil kind of makes me giggle: a pale yellow oil obtained from castor beans, used as a purgative and a lubricant and in manufacturing oil-based products. I don’t use it for any of those purposes obviously. I use it for its incredible hair growth benefits! Like seriously dude…I have shared my secret with guy friends and they apply it and use it as gel and have seriously dude seen bald spot shrink and hair grown fuller.

I personally only use it on my eyebrows because I have sensitive eyes so it burns when I apply it to my lashes, but my sister has no problem with it and her eyelashes have grown! Girls (or guys) who don’t want to have castor oil sitting in your hair all day can also apply it to your roots before you go to bed to increase hair growth.

I purchased an empty mascara tube to make application easier. I do a 3:1 ratio of castor oil to a lighter vegetable oil such as almond oil or apricot kernel oil because castor oil is so thick. Make sure you don’t fill the oils to the top or else you are going to get a serious overflow dude. And that’s that!

Giants VS Padres Recap–Paleo Style

Hello!!! The paleo pals reunited this weekend for an EPIC time. I was a little worried about what Paleo options would be available at a baseball game….I mean when I think baseball, I think beer, hot dogs, pretzels…nothing paleo. But look at what the paleo pals came across….gluten free beer, pizza, hot dogs and even a self-served juicing station. I was super impressed with all of the options. My favorite part I think was the fresh guacamole…no wait I take that back. My favorite part was the tequila, lime juice and soda water margarita that I sipped on.

Of course, we didn’t see the gluten free beer until it was too late. We had some regular beer and immediately felt swollen and itchy. It’s amazing how in tune to your body you become when you switch to paleo. I still feel like I am recovering…..Oh well, life is about balance and you have to be a bad A some times right?

My workout was more like an active recovery day. I walked on the treadmill and steamed all the toxins out of me in the steam room for a half hour.

Burger and Fries #ThrowBackThursday Paleofying Foods from Childhood 

Let’s all take a moment of silence for the ever loving Happy Meal…..Aint no way in HELL I can eat those anymore, but they were sure good back in the day…I think mostly because of the free toy. Do you guys remember that? Ugh I’m getting old. Any who, starting a fun weekly throwback Thursday today on the blog, because why not? Every week, I am going to post a recipe from my childhood that I’ve paleofied. Today is burgers and fries. I got the “fries” at Trader Joes. They are relatively new to the store, and are called Butternut Squash Zig Zags. I really like them, but I can’t eat them every day because I could see myself getting sick of them….like chicken…gag I can’t do chicken right now. Enjoy the recipe below and enjoy your day! I have so much fun stuff headed to the blog, it’s gonna knock your socks off. Check back in later today to see what I mean….OH I almost forgot. I started an instagram. The account is paleo.pals. I am super active on it and post like a maniac, so if you are into that sort of thing, then go follow. Ok I love you!!!

For the fries:
  • Sauté bag of trader joes zig zags in 1 tabs of coconut oil
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste
  • After about 5 minutes, the fries should be soft and ready to enjoy.
For the burger:
  • 1 lb of grass fed ground beef, formed into patties, push thumb print in middle to keep in the juices
  • set out, sprinkle each patty with salt and let rest for 10 minutes
For the toppings:
  • 1 onion–raw and/or grilled
    • I grilled some onions in a pan with coconut oil until they looked right…not helpful i know..well they were soft and crispy at the same time.
    • the other half of the onion i diced and served
  • Mushrooms-sauteed in olive oil
  • get creative and add in some fun toppings.
    • in the picture you will see i had avocado, bacon, sliced tomato and sliced peppers.
  • smear with some paleo mayo (i used primal kitchen, thanks Mark Sission), jalepeno mustard, and paleo ketchup and you’re good to go!!!
Last but not least, wrap it all up in romaine, butter leaf or iceberg lettuce….DONT FORGET NAPKINS! This one is messy.

Paleo in Disneyland!

Hi everyone!! The post you all have been waiting for is here!!! My paleo pal and best friend Audrey Pratt is throwing some Paleo options for you while playing in the most amazing park in America, Disneyland. We love Disneyland, and have both worked there so it has a very special place in our hearts.  Audrey decided to take the challenge of staying grain free while frolicking about. Here’s what she had to say:

IMG_9676My sister and I went to Disneyland last week and we had so much fun!!! We definitely planned ahead with yummy Paleo snacks to save money and avoid the corn dog and ice cream cravings!! We brought sliced up organic cucumbers, radishes and baby carrots, green apples and bananas, six hardboiled, organic, free-range eggs for some substantial fat and protein, Beef and Bacon Epic Bar and Jilz Gluten Free Crackers. We each packed Peanut Butter Perfect Bars to enjoy with a coffee in downtown Disney while we waited for the park to open (WE OPENED AND SHUT THAT PLACE DOWN!! 15 HOURS OF SHEER HAPPINESS!)

IMG_9674We stopped for a margarita and a light lunch in Downtown Disney, which I was able to 
order totally Paleo. The Mexican restaurant has an organic margarita and I just asked them to omit the agave and add lime juice. Even though agave is technically Paleo, I just finished a level one 21-day sugar detox and didn’t want a sugar crash 🙂

Toward the end of the day, when we didn’t feel like going back to the locker, we stopped at some of the fruit carts and got some fruit and their infamous pickles!

It was a magical day for sure and we didn’t even need to spend loads of money or eat garbage! And thank god there’s a Starbucks on every corner in Disneyland now because being a kid again is exhausting!
